Haberin tamamı

China Asset Management (Hong Kong), the offshore arm of one of mainland China’s largest asset managers, launched three exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the city on Thursday, expanding its product line-up as investors seek more diversified strategies amid market volatility.

The three products – a Hong Kong high-dividend ETF, a Hong Kong growth ETF and a Hong Kong-US “Halo” ETF – are scheduled to list on the Hong Kong stock exchange on September 30, with trading counters in Hong Kong dollars, yuan and US dollars.

“Hong Kong’s ETF market is expanding beyond broad market access as investors seek products that serve more specific roles in their portfolios,” said Tian Gan, CEO of ChinaAMC (HK), at a media briefing on Thursday.

“By offering both Hong Kong-focused and cross-market strategies, this launch can also reflect Hong Kong’s role in connecting local and international markets.”

The high-dividend ETF tracks 50 Hong Kong-listed companies selected on factors including dividend consistency, profitability and volatility. Its underlying index recorded an annualised dividend yield of about 7 per cent in the 12 months through August, while the fund was designed to provide monthly distributions, according to the company.

The growth ETF selects 50 Hong Kong-listed companies based on earnings growth, profitability and cash generation across sectors including industrials, healthcare, financials, energy and consumer businesses.

The third product, touted as Asia’s first ETF built around the Halo theme – short for “heavy assets, low obsolescence” – invests in 60 Hong Kong- and US-listed companies with substantial physical assets and relatively low obsolescence risk across sectors such as resources, infrastructure and technology.

The launch comes as Chinese regulators have taken steps to encourage mainland institutional investors to increase their exposure to Hong Kong-listed assets, potentially adding another source of demand for the city’s fast-growing ETF market.

Last month, the National Financial Regulatory Administration (NFRA) said it would support mainland insurance funds investing in ETFs through schemes like Stock Connect, which allows cross-border trading between mainland Chinese and Hong Kong financial markets.

ChinaAMC (HK) said the three funds were structured with potential mainland investor participation in mind and could become eligible for ETF Connect within about six months if they met relevant requirements. The products, however, were not developed “specifically for mainland insurers”.

Recent regulatory moves had made the environment for cross-border investment “increasingly favourable”, Gan said.

“I firmly believe that over the next five years, more mainland institutional and individual investors will participate in the Hong Kong market through compliant channels and cross-border schemes.”
