Haberin tamamı

Stocks in mainland China and Hong Kong slumped on Thursday, with the benchmark of yuan-denominated equities sliding to a 14-month low, as a hot reading on US inflation boosted bets that the Federal Reserve would raise interest rates and a plunge in the South Korean market further dented sentiment.

The CSI 300 Index slid 1.7 per cent to 4,147.46 as of 11.04am local time, on course for the lowest close since August in 2025. The chip-heavy Star Market 50 gauge tumbled to a six-month low with a 2.8 per cent decline.

The Hang Seng Index fell 1.1 per cent to 24,044.16, while the Hang Seng Tech Index sank 2.4 per cent. South Korea’s Kospi index plunged more than 7 per cent, dragged down by heavyweights Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix on unease over intensifying competition in the memory chip industry after China’s ChangXin Memory Technologies said that it would roll out a new product following a technological breakthrough.

Sticky US inflation added to a slew of headwinds capping global equities, ranging from jitters over massive spending on artificial intelligence buildout to an impasse in discussions on resolving tensions in the Middle East that kept oil prices at elevated levels. Chinese stocks have been in focus recently, as speculation about more state support is mounting before a scheduled speech by the chief of the China Securities Regulatory Commission on Monday. A move by the stock-market regulator over the weekend fell short of shoring up the market.

“Once borrowing costs rise enough, the problem can become self-reinforcing,” said Stephen Innes, a managing partner at SPI Asset Management.

“Wider spreads increase the cost of capital, higher financing costs pressure project economics, weaker economics hit equity valuations, falling equity prices undermine confidence, and suddenly the same capital markets that funded the boom become more reluctant to roll the next tranche,” he added.

The probability that the Fed would boost the benchmark borrowing cost by a quarter-point in December had risen to 66 per cent from 50 per cent a month ago, according to the CME Group. Higher borrowing costs compress equity valuations and dampen the earnings outlook by eroding corporate margins.

US consumer prices rose 3.7 per cent from a year ago in September, compared with the consensus estimate of a 3.6 per cent increase. The September price increase was broad-based and beyond the categories directly hit by rising energy costs, according to Citigroup, which predicted that the Fed would begin to cut rates in June after delivering one hike in December.
