Haberin tamamı
The Indian stock market remained muted, with Sensex in green and Nifty in red as oil prices eased below $104 per barrel, boosting sentiment, but bond yields soaring to levels not seen since 2002 kept investors on edge.Sensex gained around 130 points to rise above 72,660 while Nifty 50 lost around 20 points to fall below 22,700, as seen at around 10 am.
Broader markets, meanwhile, moved into the green, with Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices rising up to 0.7%.TCS, ICICI Bank, Tech Mahindra, IndiGo and Kotak Mahindra Bank shares gained 1-2% to lead Sensex gains, while Adani Ports, Sun Pharma, HDFC Bank and Eternal shares fell 1-2%. Among the sectors, Nifty IT jumped nearly 2% while Nifty Pharma slipped nearly 1%.
The overall market breadth turned positive, with NSE seeing 2,186 advances and 888 declines, while 95 stocks remained unchanged.Cooling oil prices vs soaring bond yieldsOil prices eased below $104 per barrel as data showed shipments from Middle East producers rebounded in September, rising to 16.33 million barrels per day, the highest level since the conflict ensued in late February.
US crude oil and gasoline inventories rose, while distillate stocks fell last week, Reuters quoted market sources on Tuesday, citing data from the American Petroleum Institute. However, oil prices inched slightly higher on Wednesday after US President Donald Trump denied he would be willing to ease sanctions on Iran while Qatar pushed for peace talks. Also read | Crude oil at $104 as Trump rejects easing Iran sanctions.
What are experts saying?Meanwhile, bond yields continued to skyrocket to multi-year highs, putting pressure on equity markets.
Yields on the longest-dated US Treasury bond climbed for a sixth consecutive session on Tuesday, surging above 5.61% to hit the highest level seen since 2002.What lies ahead for Dalal Street? The sharp 5.67% correction in Nifty in September, so far, was triggered mainly by elevated crude and high US bond yields, said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments. He noted that the correction intensified during the last few days when FIIs turned big sellers.
During the last four trading days, FIIs sold equity for Rs 24,054 crores, which implies massive selling. In the context of the 10-year US bond yields hovering around 5.2%, this FII selling is a rational act, the analyst said.“From the Indian investors’ perspective, this sharp correction in the market presents an opportunity. Largecaps with good growth prospects have reached attractive valuations. This is a value buying opportunity.
In segments like financials, particularly large banks, capital goods, telecom and automobiles, there are good buying opportunities. The risk-reward in market leaders in these segments is highly favourable for investment,” he said.Correction in crude prices can trigger a rally in the market, and when that happens, these largecaps might lead the rally, the analyst said.
For medium to long-term investors, this market presents rare value-buying opportunities, he added.Technical view on NiftyToday’s market bias for Nifty is cautiously positive, but the undertone stays subdued while the benchmark index trades below 22,800, said Hemang Gor, Senior Research Analyst – Derivatives & Technical Research, Axis Direct. He sees Nifty 50 finding immediate support at 22,500.A break below this level would expose chances of the index falling to 22,200.
On the upside, 22,900 is the first hurdle, then 23,100. Progress in US–Iran talks and easing crude and yields could help the index stabilise, while another spike in either would keep sellers in control, he added. Also read | BSE enters Nifty 50: Stock drops 4% after Goldman Sachs, BNP Paribas sell shares worth Rs 2,186 croresDisclaimer: This article has been written by Debaroti Adhikary, who is not a SEBI-registered Research Analyst or an Investment Adviser.
