Haberin tamamı
HSBC has launched a discretionary portfolio management service for retail investors with a minimum investment threshold as low as HK$1,000 (US$128) per month, as Hong Kong’s largest lender aims to attract younger, tech-savvy customers.
The new service, named Portfolio+, allows HSBC’s retail banking customers in Hong Kong to build a discretionary investment portfolio via the company’s mobile apps with a lump sum of at least HK$10,000 or regular contributions of HK$1,000 per month, according to Winnie Ng, head of wealth and premier solutions at HSBC Hong Kong.
Investors could choose to allocate their investments at different risk levels or under themes such as green concepts, with the bank then investing the funds and rebalancing the investment mix according to its house view, Ng told reporters ahead of the service’s launch on Thursday.
“We would like to capture the young investors aged 35 or younger who are too busy to invest or who have little or no investment experience. Our investment experts can invest for them according to their risk appetite and investment goals,” she said.
“With the help of technology to do analysis and documentation work, we can now introduce the discretionary investment services to the mass market of retail investors. Previously, we could only provide such a type of service to private bank clients as discretionary services involve a lot of manual work.”
HSBC Hong Kong has 7 million customers – a figure almost equal to the city’s entire population – and the bank has focused on promoting its investment and wealth management business in the city in recent years.
The discretionary investment service will charge a fee of 0.5 to 0.8 per cent per annum, based on the portfolio’s assets under management, charged monthly, according to the bank.
Allen Chiu, head of discretionary and funds specialists at HSBC Hong Kong wealth and premier solutions, said Portfolio+ would adopt a globally diversified approach, investing in stocks and bonds in the United States, Europe, Asia-Pacific and emerging economies.
The lower-risk portfolios were more heavily weighted towards global fixed income, while higher-risk portfolios had greater equity exposure, particularly to US markets, he said.
“Diversification would be the key of success for investors to cope with the volatile markets and achieve growth of their investment for the long term,” Chiu said.
Ng said the bank would invest these assets via exchange-traded funds listed in London, while it would consider investing in Hong Kong ETFs in the next stage. The portfolios also include selective alternative-asset-style exposure, such as listed property and infrastructure ETFs.
