Poonawalla Fincorp reported a 406.8% year-on-year (YoY) jump in profit after tax (PAT) to Rs 375 crore in the second quarter of FY27, compared with Rs 74 crore in the corresponding period a year ago.The non-banking financial company's (NBFC) net interest income (NII) rose 80.6% YoY to Rs 1,380 crore in Q2FY27, against Rs 764 crore in Q2FY26, according to an exchange filing.Total interest income increased 72.3% YoY to Rs 2,416 crore in the quarter, compared with Rs 1,402 crore in the year-ago period.

Interest expenses rose 62.2% YoY to Rs 1,035 crore from Rs 638 crore.Operating profit surged 126.6% YoY to Rs 877 crore in Q2FY27, compared with Rs 387 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

Operating expenses climbed 37.5% YoY to Rs 712 crore from Rs 518 crore, while credit costs increased 30.6% to Rs 376 crore from Rs 288 crore.Asset qualityPoonawalla Fincorp said its asset quality improved during the quarter, with gross non-performing assets (GNPA) declining by 17 basis points quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) and 39 basis points YoY.

The company reported no accelerated write-offs during the quarter.The NBFC also expanded its gold loan branch network to 550 branches to strengthen its distribution reach.

Its sourcing channels include direct selling agents (DSAs), digital platforms, tele-calling and its in-house sales team.The company further highlighted continued improvement in return on assets (RoA), citing enhanced efficiency and capital allocation.Management commentaryArvind Kapil, managing director and chief executive officer of Poonawalla Fincorp, said Q2 marked a decisive inflection point in establishing a resilient and self-sustaining earnings engine through structural improvements across the company's four core performance areas.“We have delivered disciplined AUM expansion while enriching total realizations via NIM and fee income optimization, demonstrating strong pricing power across core and newly incubated verticals.

Concurrently, continuous asset quality refinement has driven credit costs lower from an already formidable baseline, translating directly into a structural lift in our Return on Assets (RoA).

The stock opened at Rs 437.90 and traded between Rs 436.90 and Rs 450.90 during the session.Despite the day's gains, the stock has declined 7.60% so far in 2026.
