Samsung will release its preliminary third quarter results Thursday, and more detailed data for the quarter in late October, according to the report.

There has been a shortage of chips for more than a year, and it is expected to continue into 2027 and perhaps even through 2028, the report said.

However, the pace of price increases on chips slowed in the third quarter, leading to analysts’ concerns that the products’ margins may have peaked, per the report.

For Samsung and other chipmakers, the shortage has led to record profits and margins.

However, due to the moderating growth in chip prices, together with the strength of the Korean won, analysts have cut their forecasts for Samsung’s third quarter operating profit by nearly 8% since the end of August. Still, they expect the firm to report that the metric increased nearly ninefold during the quarter, per the report.

Bloomberg reported in January that the boom in AI data center construction had led to record demand for high bandwidth memory , helping lift Samsung’s stock price while also tightening supplies for other uses, such as the company’s vast electronics portfolio.

Samsung warned at the time that the chip shortage could drive up prices in the electronics sector. The company itself is subject to the skyrocketing costs of the chips used to power devices ranging from smartphones and laptops to home appliances and self-driving cars.

PYMNTS reported in January that memory had emerged as a central driver for Samsung. Demand for AI servers significantly exceeded industry supply as hyperscalers accelerated capital spending to secure compute capacity. Low inventory levels and supply constraints allowed pricing to reset sharply higher, the report said.

Samsung announced Sept. 29 that it is investing $1 billion in Helix Digital Infrastructure , an AI infrastructure company established by global investment firm KKR and launched in June. Samsung Electronics will invest $500 million, while five other Samsung affiliates will invest the remainder.
